Costa Rican goalkeeper Génesis Pérez reached a major milestone in her career this Saturday, making her official debut with Atlético de Madrid Femenino in Spanish women’s top-flight football (Liga F).

Her debut came in a high-intensity away fixture against FC Barcelona, widely regarded as one of the premier teams in global women’s football.

⚽ Unexpected Entry Against FC Barcelona

Pérez started the match on the substitute bench but was called upon in the 80th minute following an injury to starting goalkeeper Lola Gallardo.

Upon stepping onto the pitch, the Costa Rican international faced fierce pressure from the Catalan attack. She conceded one goal late in the match, which extended Barcelona’s lead to seal a 4-2 victory over the red-and-whites.

🔴⚪ Growing Presence in European Football

The Madrid-based club secured Pérez’s services mid-year as a key addition to their squad depth. Making her official debut against elite opposition marks a significant step forward in her European career and highlights the ongoing expansion of Costa Rican football talent on the global stage.
