The profound solidarity of the Costa Rican people is rapidly transforming into tangible relief for thousands of families devastated by the recent earthquakes in Venezuela. The scale of the tragedy continues to grow, with the death toll now tragically nearing 3,000 people, leaving an urgent and massive need for humanitarian assistance on the ground.
Over the last few days, a massive outpouring of support has mobilized across the country. Dozens of individuals, families, local businesses, and civic organizations have stepped up to donate essential goods.
What is Being Sent to the Affected Zones?
The donations focus on immediate survival and hygiene needs for the most vulnerable populations. Key supplies include:
- Essential food items to combat widespread shortages.
- Diapers for both infants and older adults.
- Other first-need supplies to help families who have lost everything.
On Sunday, operations began to transport these collected goods to a centralized warehouse in Pavas. There, teams will meticulously sort, pack, and prepare the shipments for their journey to Venezuela. This massive relief drive is being strictly coordinated by the National Emergency Commission (CNE) alongside the Costa Rican Fire Department.
Costa Rican Red Cross Remains on the Frontlines
Costa Rica’s material aid is running parallel to its ongoing human efforts. Joining an international network of emergency responders, a dedicated team from the Costa Rican Red Cross remains deployed on the ground in Venezuela.
The tico humanitarian team is actively providing:
- Search and rescue operations in collapsed areas.
- Pre-hospital medical care for the injured.
- Direct community support to help families stabilize amidst the chaos.
The Ongoing Crisis: As emergency teams work around the clock, the situation remains dire. Thousands of displaced Venezuelans are currently without shelter, relying entirely on incoming international aid for food, clean water, medicine, and basic survival items to cope with the aftermath of this historic catastrophe.
