Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promotion Agency (PROCOMER), together with a delegation of six Costa Rican companies from the agricultural and food sectors, is seeking new business opportunities in Puerto Rico through its participation in the MIDA Conference & Food Show 2026, the most important food trade show in that country and the Caribbean.
The event will take place from June 25 to 27, 2026, at the Puerto Rico Convention Center, with more than 500 exhibitors and 15,000 industry professionals participating. In the days leading up to the event, the Costa Rican delegation maintained a schedule of visits to purchasing companies in the Puerto Rican market, including supermarket chains, importers, distributors, and wholesalers, with the goal of facilitating the establishment of new business relationships.
“For the agricultural and food sector, opening and strengthening trade channels in nearby markets like Puerto Rico is key. We’re talking about companies that produce in different regions of the country and need specific opportunities to meet with buyers, showcase their products, and move forward with potential business deals. At PROCOMER, we aim for these participations to be not just a showcase, but a tool to support the productive sector in its internationalization process,” said Laura López, General Manager of PROCOMER.
The Costa Rican delegation is made up of the following companies: Consorcio Agrícola CR del Caribe, TUBERTICO, SEMA Foods, Dos Pinos, Santorini International—representing Exportaciones RR and La Antioqueña—and Finca Mora del Caribe JKS Sociedad Civil.
In addition, among the products on display at the fair are fresh (frozen and processed) roots and tubers, vegetables and fruits (fresh and frozen), dairy beverages, nectars, juices, ice cream, meat products, and corn snacks.
“The international context requires that exporting companies have more opportunities to market their products. In the case of the food sector, this is even more important given climate factors, logistics costs, and changes in consumption patterns. That is why our job is to provide trade opportunities that address the realities facing these companies and enable them to maintain or expand their international presence,” López added.
Puerto Rico: A Market of Interest for Costa Rican Food Products
According to data from PROCOMER, Costa Rica exported a total of US$125.7 million to Puerto Rico in 2025. Products such as beef, fruit juices and concentrates, tiquisque, pasta, and cassava ranked among the top 10 products exported by the country to this market. In addition, the Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR)—an indicator used to measure the average growth rate of exports over a given period—was +15% for the food sector between 2021 and 2025, rising from US$10.9 million to US$19.3 million.
Similarly, recent academic studies, such as the one published by the scientific journal *Frontiers in Nutrition* in 2025, indicate that Puerto Rico supplements its food supply through imports. This is because local production accounted for, on average, about 19% of total food availability during the period analyzed.
The MIDA Conference & Food Show 2026 marks PROCOMER’s fourth participation in the trade show. As part of the process, the institution provided support to companies in the application, selection, and coordination phases, as well as in setting up business meetings, offering technical assistance, and preparing the exhibition space.
