Coronation Street's Tina O'Brien says her character might face hell in prison over Theo Silverton's murder.

Corrie fans learned that Sarah Platt accidentally murdered Theo, and her ex Gary Windass helped cover up the crime. Sarah's partner Kit Green, the detective investigating the crime, is convinced Gary is the killer.

But it seems the truth could come out as Sarah confesses all to Kit next week. Actress Tina has teased Sarah's future, and the prison turmoil ahead for her.

She also hinted that poor Gary could shockingly be framed for Theo's murder thanks to Kit. Tina shared her thoughts on who Sarah should end up with too, and what could be on the cards for her killer character...

How is Sarah coping with the guilt of her actions and keeping this secret from Kit?

She is incredibly torn. There is a part of her that wishes she could tell Kit and part of her that’s desperate for him not to find out. She can see how much he loves her and she definitely wants to be with him.

I know there's been mention of people thinking that Sarah and Gary should be together, but she really does love Kit, she just doesn't know what to do. She also feels guilty because she accidentally discovered he wanted to propose to her.

She is struggling with the idea of getting married while hiding such a massive secret—she doesn't know how to behave anymore and is hitting breaking point.

Is she terrified that telling Kit would mean the end of their relationship?

Yes. She knows that if he finds out, everything blows up: their relationship, his career, and he would be put in a position where he’d be forced to choose between turning her in or becoming a "dodgy cop." She knows that telling him means the "perfect relationship" he believes they have is over.

Gary’s marriage to Maria is falling apart. How does Sarah feel about being in the middle of that?

Again she just feels incredibly guilty, like it’s all her fault. For the first time, she’s also feeling a bit frustrated with Gary. She has always felt really supported by him, but now she’s wondering why he didn’t just tell her to go to the police instead of taking the burden himself.

When Kit prepares a romantic lunch and eventually drops to one knee and asks her to marry him, how does she feel in that moment?

She feels like the worst person in the world. It should be a perfect moment, but she is so racked with guilt and shame that she can’t enjoy it at all.

Do you think their relationship is strong enough to survive this?

Sarah’s concern is that Kit will feel deeply betrayed, especially if he finds out that Gary was in the know, but he himself wasn't. I think she loves him, and she really wants to be with him, but I think she worries that if he finds out the truth, has she got to try and convince him not to go to the police about her.

She worries he will see her as only being with him to keep herself out of prison. It would create a horrible dynamic of mistrust and confusion, and it’s hard to say if that could ever be repaired.

Do you think Kit is the right person for Sarah, or is there still something there with Gary?

If you had asked me six months ago, I would have said absolutely—Kit is the right person for Sarah. But after everything she has been through with Gary, it’s complicated.

Even though they never crossed a line, there’s a level of emotional support and care still there. It’s hard to know if there is still something more, or if they are both just blind to it.

If push comes to shove, do you think Kit will protect Sarah or put his job first?

I would like to hope that he would protect Sarah. Because of the way he feels about Gary, I think if it came down to it, he would throw Gary under a bus to protect her.

What has the audience reaction been like since the reveal that Sarah is the killer?

It’s been really good. I’ve had so many people coming up to me in the street, genuinely shocked. I was so convinced that everyone would know it’s me that it’s been interesting to hear feedback—some people were completely surprised, others suspected it, but everyone seemed to love the dinner party scene and the reveal.

How do you think Sarah would cope if she went to prison?

I would be very worried for her. She might appear to be a "soft touch" to hard criminals and I worry she’d get into problems in there—especially if they found out she had a partner who was a police officer.
