Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard has been congratulated by fans after completing her radiotherapy treatment, almost six months after she announced she had been diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer

Beverley Callard has completed radiotherapy. The actress, 69, announced earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and, following a few setbacks, she began the first of 10 radiotherapy sessions earlier this month.

The soap legend, who is best known for having starred as Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald on Coronation Street on and off for 30 years, has been keeping fans up to date with the whole process and took to social media on Thursday night with some positive news after getting to the end of her treatment.

She said: "Well, I've done it. I've just finished my last radiotherapy session, fingers crossed. That was number 10 for me, lots of people have to have lots more, I know that. But for now, that's finished. I don't know for sure but, hopefully, I won't need anymore. Positive thinking!

"To be honest, I feel a bit numb because yesterday, I really struggled, but today' I've been fine. I've got to see the professor again in two months and then I'll know a lot more, and mammograms and oncologists and all that.

"But radiotherapy is finished for now, so I'm really thrilled. I'm not gonna celebrate tonight, we're too tired, I can't be bothered. I'm gonna put scruffy clothes on and watch TV with a cup of tea."

Beverley, who recently moved to Ireland with her husband Jon McEwan so she could star in the RTE soap Fair City, admitted she had had a bit of a down day before completing it all and while she is thrilled by the news, she is just too tired to celebrate tonight.

The star, who filmed I'm A Celebrity...South Africa towards the end of last year but had to leave just before the final because of her health, was instantly congratulated by fans in the comments section of her post.

One said: "Amazing! Now rest! Don’t go mad. You can’t see what is going on inside your body and it now needs time to heal and recover when on the outside you might feel fine. So pleased you can move on to your next chapter."

Another said: "Well done you are a shining light. Sending healing positive thoughts. Bless you . You look absolutely amazing!" Jon, who has also developed quite the social media following in recent months, also posted his own video for fans where he paid tribute to his wife and described her as a "warrior" after everything she has been through.

He said: "That was the day we were looking for, day 10 done, radiotherapy is done. Got an appointment in a couple of months with the consultant but all in all, we've done it. I didn't think this day was gonna come. Crazy. Really pleased.

"She's absolutely smashed it, that woman is definitely a warrior. Someone asked me the other day how she was feeling and I said 'That woman jumps out of planes, she doesn't let anything beat her!'

"She certainly hasn't let this beat her, it's never gonna beat her. What a great feeling. We're not gonna celebrate because we're both knackered, hope you have a good evening!"
