Global purchases of imported corn cost a total US$51.4 billion in 2024.
The overall value of corn imports increased by an average 23.9% from all importing countries since five years earlier in 2020 when corn purchases were valued at $41.5 billion.
Year over year, international purchases of corn fell by -19.8% compared to $64.2 billion starting in 2023.
The 5 biggest importers of corn in 2024 were Mexico, Japan, mainland China, South Korea and Vietnam. That cohort of major corn buyers paid over one-third (36.7%) of total international spending on corn imported in 2024.
From a continental perspective, buyers in Asian countries spent the most on imported corn during 2024 with purchases costing $22.3 billion or 43.4% of the global total. In second place were importers located in Europe at 21.6% while 12.9% of globally imported corn was delivered to North America.
Another 11.7% was sent to importers in Latin America excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean.
Smaller percentages were sold to customers in Africa (10.3%) and Oceania (0.04%) led by Australia, New Zealand, Marshall Islands and Papua New Guinea.
For research purposes, the 4-digit Harmonized Tariff System code prefix for corn is 1005.
Below are the 15 countries that spent the most on imported corn during 2024.

Among the above countries, the growth markets for corn since 2023 were: Türkiye (up 71.6%), Saudi Arabia (up 20.4%), Mexico (up 2.8%) and Malaysia (up -6.7%).
Those countries that posted declines in their imported corn purchases were led by: Iran (down -70.6% from 2023), mainland China (down -58%), Egypt (down -25.7%) and Japan (down -19.8%).
