As investigations into the fire that killed four soldiers and severely injured many more get underway, training has resumed at CFB Wainwright. The resumption of exercises less than a week after the deadly incident comes without any additional safety measures and before lessons from the fire can be applied to help prevent a future tragedy. The decision concerns a legal expert who spoke to The West Block, given a previous tragedy at the base. Recommendations following a deadly 2005 vehicle rollover hadn't yet been released when a similar light armoured vehicle incident occurred, killing a second soldier. Retired Col.
