Amid the continuing security chokehold in New Delhi for the second day on Sunday, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) vowed to continue its protest as more than 100 protestors, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, were detained.
The opposition INDIA bloc will hold a protest march on Monday over the issue of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls (vote theft) and will also submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India.
‘Until last breath’
The national capital, for the second day running, was under the tight grip of the Delhi police and paramilitary personnel, with restrictions on movement on certain roads. Central Delhi, Lutyens’ Zone, and Connaught Place were heavily barricaded with strong police presence.
Earlier in the day, top CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were released from police detention. In a joint press conference after their release, the leaders criticised the heavy security deployment and restrictions, which are impacting citizens.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas was detained and allegedly roughed up by Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel. “No matter what the Delhi police does, we will be here until our last breath,” he said on X.
CJI intervention
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said that the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, has sought time from the Chief Justice of India between 4 and 5 pm on Monday to seek his intervention over the ‘vote chori’ issue.
“Tomorrow, we will march to the Supreme Court as Indians, united beyond party, gender, caste, community and state. Youth, all opposition parties, civil society groups, all those who believe in democracy and stand by the Constitution of India, will walk with us. We will submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice on behalf of the nation, demanding an end to vote chori, halting of SIR and the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar,” Gandhi said on X.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police registered 20 FIRs in connection with the protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Sunday. CJP founder Dipke accused the Delhi Police of denying him access to his phone and a call with his lawyer while he was in detention.
In a post on X, Dipke said: “I had requested to let me speak to my cousin who lives with my grandmother. Asked for my phone just for a couple of minutes so I could at least take out the number of my cousin. Why didn’t the Delhi Police let me use my phone? I had also asked for a call with lawyer which was again denied.”
