In a major digital governance push, the Estate Office of Chandigarh has successfully implemented an automated property mutation system that eliminates the need for citizens to file separate applications after registering sale deeds.

The Auto Mutation System, developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), integrates the Sub-Registrar Office (SRO) with the Estate Office, ensuring that once a sale deed is registered, the mutation—updating the ownership records—is triggered automatically.

Previously, buyers or sellers had to submit multiple documents and applications across departments, often resulting in delays. The new system simplifies this process and significantly reduces the time taken for property transfers.

In the last three days, nine sale deeds related to Estate Office properties were registered with the SRO. On Tuesday, transfer letters were issued in three of these cases, with the remaining six expected to be processed within the next couple of days. The Estate Office has fixed a seven-day time limit for completing such transfers.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-Estate Officer Nishant Kumar Yadav said the automated system enhances transparency and citizen convenience by allowing interaction primarily with the Sub-Registrar Office.

“This integration marks a significant milestone in Chandigarh’s digital governance efforts. It makes property registration and mutation faster, simpler and more citizen-friendly,” Yadav said.
