The self-enumeration process, which is part of Phase 1 of Census 2027 in Tamil Nadu, is scheduled to commence on July 17 (Friday), M. Sundaresh Babu, Chief Principal Census Officer, Directorate of Census Operations, Tamil Nadu, said in Chennai on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference, Mr. Babu said the self-enumeration process was scheduled from July 17 to 31. The portal for the purpose will open on Friday, he said.
“The data shared with the enumerators would be stored safely,” he said.
When the Census enumerators visit them, those who have completed self-enumeration can share the details of the unique self-enumeration ID with them, he said.
The field activity, i.e., the house listing and housing Census, would be carried out between August 1 and 30, the official said.
The portal was available in 16 languages, he added.
For the first time, the Census would be carried out in a digital format, he said, adding that the enumerators had been provided with mobile applications, and the data collected by them would go to the data server directly.
Each enumerator would undertake the Census in 200-250 households, he said.
