Canada and the European Union opened a new era of transatlantic co-operation Monday with the official signing of a security and defence partnership at a joint summit in Brussels. Joined by European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at a press briefing at the summit, he said the EU and Canada were committed to providing military aid to Ukraine. In response to a question, Carney said Iran violated international law by "sponsoring" Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis in Yemen, which he referred to as "outfits of terrorism." Carney also responded to a question about countering U.S. tariffs if the two countries fail to reach a negotiated deal by July 21, saying, "Only some of us in NATO are talking about an allied industrial policy that will make us stronger. That's the future of trade, not a narrow discussion on tariffs."
