Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Ottawa has earmarked $11 billion for six new icebreakers in partnership with Quebec-based shipbuilder, Chantier Davie. The new fleet, which is expected to be ready by 2036, will replace the Coast Guard’s aging batch of heavy and medium ice breaker ships.
