A Calgary police officer is recovering this morning after being shot twice during a traffic stop – a confrontation that quickly turned into a chaotic chase through Edworthy Park. According to Calgary police, at some point during the traffic stop, as police interacted with the suspect, he opened fire, injuring the officer and then quickly fled the scene on foot into Edworthy Park. In the park, the suspect continued to fire shots toward police, which prompted officers to return fire. The suspect then carjacked a vehicle, only to end up on foot once again after it got stuck. The suspect was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the Bow River, and an investigation has opened into how it all unfolded. Global’s Drew Stremick is at the scene with more.
