Trump has repeatedly been saying that most major military targets in Iran have already been damaged. In an address on Wednesday, he praised the American military for delivering a decisive blow, claiming that Iran’s navy was gone, its air force was in ruins, and its leaders were dead.

However, intelligence assessments paint a more complex picture. CNN, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that Tehran still retained a substantial portion of its missile-launching capability. It said that nearly half of Iran’s missile launchers remained intact, and thousands of one-way attack drones were still operational. Coastal defence cruise missiles, crucial for threatening maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, were also largely undamaged.

According to the report, much of Iran’s remaining arsenal includes launchers that may be underground or otherwise inaccessible due to bombardment but not fully destroyed. Intelligence indicates that around 50 per cent of drone capabilities are still available. The US military has largely focused on land targets and shipping, leaving some coastal missile systems intact.
