Police were called to Masshouse Lane in Kings Norton at around 5.55pm on Tuesday where a child was found with serious injuries

A man and a woman have been arrested after a horror crash which has left a nine-year-old boy fighting for his life in hospital.

Police said they were called to the two-car crash on Tuesday in Birmingham at around 5.55pm on Tuesday.

A boy was found with serious injuries at the scene in Masshouse Lane, at the junction of Shannon Road. He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, the force said.

Officers arrested a man and a woman at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, Birmingham Live reports.

The pair were also taken to hospital for checks following the crash, a spokesperson for West Midlands Police said. Now police are asking for anyone with information about the crash to contact them as soon as possible.

In a statement, the force said: "We’re appealing for information following a serious collision in Birmingham earlier this evening.

"We were called to Masshouse Lane at the junction of Shannon Road in Kings Norton at around 5.55pm to reports of a two-car collision. A nine-year-old boy was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.

"A man and a woman were arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. They were taken to hospital to be checked over.

"We are appealing to anyone who was in the area just before and around the time of the collision and in particular anyone who has any dash-cam footage to get in touch. Masshouse Lane at the junction of Shannon Road remains closed.
