Five Ukrainian embassies and three consulates received “bloodied” post packages with the animal eyes. The mail was delivered to the embassies in Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia and Italy; consulates general in Naples, Italy and Krakow, Poland; and the consulate in Brno, Czech Republic.

“The packages themselves were saturated with liquid of a characteristic color and had a corresponding smell. We are investigating the meaning of this message,” Ukraine’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

The entrance to the Ukrainian ambassador’s apartment in the Vatican was also vandalized, and the embassy in Kazakhstan received a false bomb report.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba branded the incidents “a well-planned campaign of terror and intimidation” of Ukrainian foreign missions.

“Unable to stop Ukraine on the diplomatic front, they are trying to intimidate us. However, I can say right away that these attempts are useless. We will continue to work effectively for the victory of Ukraine,” Kuleba said.

Security measures at all Ukrainian embassies and consulates have been ramped up, Kuleba added. A letter bomb exploded in Ukraine’s embassy in Madrid earlier this week.
