President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Canada will impose an additional tax on U.S. digital services.
"We have just been informed that Canada, a very difficult Country to TRADE with, including the fact that they have charged our Farmers as much as 400% Tariffs, for years, on Dairy Products, has just announced that they are putting a Digital Services Tax on our American Technology Companies, which is a direct and blatant attack on our Country," claimed Trump.
Trump noted, however, that the European Union has done the same thing.
"Based on this egregious Tax, we are hereby terminating ALL discussions on Trade with Canada, effective immediately. We will let Canada know the Tariff that they will be paying to do business with the United States of America within the next seven-day period. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump said.
Trump appeared to announce in passing on Thursday that he reached a trade deal with China; however, Kevin Hassett, director of the National Economic Council, told Fox News that there was no deal with China, and that the deal with India was pending.
Trump aimed to have 90 trade deals in 90 days; however, the only one the administration has managed to secure is with the United Kingdom.
