The BJP Kollam East district committee will organize a rally and protest meeting in Punalur on Wednesday demanding the resignation of Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan, Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan, and 137 MLAs for protesting against the SIR of voter lists.

Speaking at a press conference, BJP leaders alleged that the INDIA bloc is undermining the democratic system and instigating unrest across the country by falsely claiming that the SIR is illegal. The leaders asserted that if there is any moral authority behind the statements made by Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan must step down immediately.

The leadership said they had previously staged marches and placed protest boards in front of the residences of five MLAs in the district, with the upcoming Punalur rally serving as a continuation of these ongoing agitations. Alongside key political issues, the assembly will heavily feature pressing livelihood concerns faced by residents in the eastern hill regions. Party leaders said that escalating human-wildlife conflict has become a severe threat to lives and property in the area. They criticized the State government for failing to implement effective, permanent solutions while farmers and ordinary citizens continue to live in fear.

The BJP leaders demanded urgent government intervention to adopt scientific and lasting measures against wild animal attacks to ensure the safety of the public. The protest meeting will be inaugurated by BJP State vice president and former DGP R. Sreelekha, with district president Raji Prasad presiding over the event and State secretary Shyamraj delivering the keynote address.
