The opening of the Biodiversity Study Centre is set to make Kidoor in Kumbla grama panchayat a major attraction for birdwatchers and nature lovers.

The facility, developed as part of the Kumbla rural tourism project under the Kasaragod Development Package, was inaugurated by Manjeswaram MLA A.K.M. Ashraf.

The function was presided over by V.P. Abdul Khader, president, Kumbla panchayat. M.A. Naseeb, Deputy Director of Tourism, presented the project report.

Kidoor is considered a bird village in Kerala, hosting more than 170 species of birds, including around 38 migratory species. The area is known for the iconic Orange-breasted Green Pigeon, besides various coastal and wetland birds, making it an important destination for researchers and bird enthusiasts.

As part of the project, a modern dormitory facility accommodating 40 visitors, with separate rooms for men and women, a meeting hall, and a kitchen, has been developed to support researchers, tourists, and nature enthusiasts.

The Arikady Walkway, completed as part of the same project, was also inaugurated. The construction work was carried out by the District Nirmithi Kendra.
