Premier David Eby, joined by Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness Kelly Greene and MLA for Penticton-Summerland Amelia Boultbee, provided comments and took questions in Penticton regarding the ongoing wildfire situation across British Columbia on Wednesday afternoon. "It is highly inspiring and incredibly moving... the professionalism, the energy and the commitment of these volunteers and staff is absolutely second to none, it's world class," Eby said. "There's an important set of lessons for us to take about how quickly this moved, and that this may be our new normal for fire speed, and that a crucial piece of work that we have to do is an after action review, which we will do, to determine how we can be as prepared as possible to ensure the supports are there," he added. As of Wednesday morning, the Bald Range wildfire had grown again, measuring 18,450 hectares amid a possibility of thunderstorms, which may create unstable winds that could potentially increase fire behaviour — according to the BC Wildfire Service. In an update issued on the BC government website, accommodations for evacuees are available for those who have been displaced by the Bald Range wildfire in the form of hotel rooms in Penticton, Kelowna and West Kelowna.
