The Pear Lake wildfire has spared nothing in its path with hundreds of power poles destroyed, while some have been saved by fire retardant. There are homes completely burned down, but it’s unclear how many homes have been destroyed by the Big Bar Complex wildfire. Despite being ordered to evacuate, 70 Mile House resident Gord Nielson said he is staying behind, fighting to protect his home still under construction. The rural community of 79 Mile House is located roughly 27 km north of Clinton. “I was never scared (or) felt my life was in danger at any time and so we stayed,” Nielson tells Global News.
