Raphinha has signed a contract extension with Barcelona that ties him to the club until 2030.

The Brazil international has been a huge success at Camp Nou after joining from Leeds in 2022. In all, he has made 190 appearances for the Blaugrana, scoring 94 goals and adding 55 assists.

He has been in sparkling form this season with 19 goals and three assists in just 13 games.

I want to end my career with Barcelona – Raphinha

Raphinha, 29, said: “It’s a feeling of great pride on my part and for my family. Only we know what we went through internally. I feel very proud of everything I have conquered, individually and collectively. I hope, if my legs allow me to continue at a high level, to finish my career at the club. I will do everything I can for Barcelona.”

Robert Lewandowski’s departure for Chicago Fire meant Barca went into the season without a recognised number nine with Raphinha deployed in that role, initially as a stop-gap. However, his success means it could become a more permanent arrangement in what is a fluid front-four.

He added: “I am surprised by the numbers. I didn’t expect to get to this point with so many goals. I have changed my position a lot but always trying to do my best for my team-mates and the coach.

“I try to adapt quickly. When they told me to play number nine, I gave everything to adapt. I knew I could score goals, with the quality we have, but the numbers have surprised me a little. Now I think we can go much further.”

Barcelona are in good shape – Raphinha

Barca lead the way in La Liga – despite losing the season’s first El Clasico to arch-rivals Real Madrid – and sit in fifth place in the Champions League table having won three of four games with the only setback coming against Paris Saint-Germain.

Raphinha added: “The team is very good. We are in good shape. There are hard defeats, but this does not change the work. Against PSG we know the strength they have, they are the two-time European champions, and against Madrid anything can happen in a Clasico. Maybe we weren’t so good defensively.

“We have lost three points, but we are still leaders in La Liga and in good shape. I want to win the Champions League, but I also want to win the other three titles we can go for.”
