A 31-year-old Bangladeshi woman was arrested by the Hosdurg police after being taken into custody from the vicinity of the Kanhangad railway station on Tuesday for allegedly entering and residing in India without valid travel documents.

The woman, identified as Salman Khatun, was found under suspicious circumstances during a police patrol around 9.15 am. The police said she initially claimed to be looking for work and later disclosed that she was a Bangladeshi national.

During questioning, the police examined her mobile phone and reportedly found details of a Bangladeshi national ID card in an application installed on the device, confirming her nationality. Officers said she was unable to provide a clear explanation of how she had entered India and admitted that she did not possess a valid visa, passport or other documents required for legal residence in the country.

Investigators also found that she had been staying in the Perinthalmanna area. The police recovered certain identification documents and gold ornaments from her bag.

After recording her statement, the police formally arrested her and took her for a medical examination.

A case has been registered under Section 3(1)and 21 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025 for allegedly entering and residing in India illegally.
