As I said in that final post, this has been a proper day of Test cricket, and Bangladesh have been absolutely brilliant throughout.

"They batted really well," Jake Weatherald tells Fox Sports.

"We obviously missed a few chances too, but credit to them, they batted really well."

The Aussie batter says that it's clear the pitch has got easier to bat on and that is something he and his teammates are looking forward to do.

"Obviously the wicket's changed quite a lot from our first innings compared to today," he says.

"We're excited to get out there, it looks like a really good track to bat on now.

"I'll go out with the intention to go out and score as quick as I can."

He notes that he's not going to be giving the bowlers any advice, and that the bowlers bowled "really well".

"They feel like they're doing the right things, but obviously they've batted very well."

Incredible day for Bangladesh once more.

England only managed to keep Australia in the field for more than 100 overs once during the Ashes.

Bangladesh have done so at the first attempt here, and are fully deserving of doing so.

This is proper Test match cricket, and proper Test match batting from the Bangladesh team.

There was a brief flurry of frenetic batting among the Bangladeshi players during that new ball period.

But Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmud have been superb. Brilliant batting.

I mean, at this stage, why not.

Mehidy fends into the covers but there is no run there.

Mehidy swipes across the line to fine leg - he turns down the run again.

Gully, second slip, fly slip and bat pad in place as Marnus bowls a bouncer from around the wicket that bounces around half way down the pitch, Ugly delivery that was well ducked under.

Solid defence from Mehidy.

Over the wicket again from Marnus, changing the angle.

CLOSE! Was that a chance? Mehidy cuts to gully and Green drops it!

Oh that's poor, Cam Green should be taking those, just back on his heels.

Cam Green has dropped Mehidy on 32, off the last ball of the day.

Nathan Lyon comes back into the attack.

Bat pad and a slip the two close catchers, Mehidy defends the first couple.

Now he dabs a fuller ball down towards mid on. Why is mid on half way back? Bring him up, present an option for the batter to attempt a hit over the top. Lyon's one big weakness for me, his poor field placements.

Hasan defends the first couple of balls he faces from the GOAT in this spell.

Solid defence ends the over.

Mehidy is standing square on to Marnus, and he wants to hook the ball but Marnus puts a yorker in. Fended away.

Mehidy stands square again, Marnus bowls outside off and it's left alone.

EDGED! Past the keeper to fly slip for a single! I think he tried to play it that way, Mehidy.

Hasan ducks under a bouncer as second slip comes in, first is vacant and the fly slip goes deeper even towards a backstop type position.

Hasan fends a ball that Marnus bowls pretty well.

Not a bad over there from Marnus, just a single off that outside edge against it.

Mehidy has to present the straightest of bats to see out a ball that's aimed at the stumps from Cummins.

Another ball on the poles, another big bat face stopping it from crashing into them.

Single for Mehidy.

Hasan defends solidly.

Bouncer, Hasan gets low and the ball follows him towards the leg side, fading away over his back.

Hasan is rapped on the pads, the slip cordon go up, Cummins turns around dismissively as he knows full well that ball was going a long way down leg and was not worth appealing for.

Goodness me. Well, it's worth a shot, I guess.

But if anything else says that Australia has run out of ideas more than this, please let me know.

Bouncer from Marnus, 125km/h. I assume he's on to try and talk the batters out as much as bowl them out.

Mehidy pulls another short one and it's a single down to fine leg.

Fly slip, gully, deep bat pad. Weird field for a weird man. Bouncer again, Hasan ducks under it.

A slip comes in. Another bouncer that Hasan gets under.

BEATEN! Oh don't do that, Hasan, you'll only encourage him. Marnus wheels away as he gets one to swing past the outside edge.

I think we had Captain Pat saving the day on our bingo card... get those pens ready...

Bouncer that Carey can't gather as it drops down in front of him. No run, no shot offered.

A single for Mehidy, just keeping the strike moving through.

Hasan defends solidly into the off side.

BEATEN! A ripper from Captain Pat. Just moved a bit off the deck away from Hasan, who played down the line and the ball flew past the outside edge. Good ball, there is still life in this pitch.

Solid defence ends the over, Cummins saving the fastest for last, 135km/h.

Pat Cummins is warming up. He might be replacing Starc after that little outburst.

Mehidy leaves the first and drives the second to long off and takes the single.

Mehidy is saying "I didn't see" to the umpire, perhaps still to do with Starc's frustrations. I don't think I'd be so apologetic - let the Aussies stew. They're the ones who are not firing. I'd keep stirring the pot, I think.

Hasan defends solidly.

Solid defence again, Webster in the holding pattern job.

EDGED!! Hasan has a swing! Was there an edge? There might have been you know?! Yes there was, and it dropped just short of Carey, who couldn't dive forward far enough to grab the ball on the full (but he did brilliantly to gather it on the bounce in fairness).

FOUR! Great shot! Gorgeous drive through the covers, and Jake Weatherald chased hard, dived, but couldn't get there. It's a lovely shot, just a fraction of width from Starc and Mehidy punished it.

Another drive, squarer and less fiercely struck this time, no run taken.

Well wide from Starc, Mehidy was a bit interested to have a swipe, but he'd have fallen over had he reached that far to get bat to it.

Another wide ball from Starc, this time Mehidy does reach and does get bat on it, and they run a single.

"It's my follow through, not your follow through. Get off the wicket," Starc says to Mehidy after they nearly collide. Starc fired up, and annoyed at the way his team  has played no doubt.

Starc sees the last ball of the over fended away, and he's losing his cool a bit, the big left hander, who should know better, as he chirps again at Mehidy, who will be loving every verbal barb. He's got under Starc's skin.

Change of bowling, Beau Webster getting a chance to bowl and keep things tight. He's been OK today with the ball, 0-26 off 8 overs so far.

Mehidy is fending the ball away, only 120km/h there or there abouts, so not quick, but very accurate.

Short and wide, Mehidy cuts the ball to point for a single.

Better accuracy again there from Webster, back on the money, as Hasan has to defend off his stumps.

He leaves outside off.

Good ball from Webster, the ball angling in as Hasan defends solidly. He's faced 54 balls now for his 13 runs, the Aussies being made to work.

It's the 20th over he has bowled in this innings - few times has Starc had to get through as much work in the first innings as he has today in the first innings of a Test match on home soil.

Mehidy shoulders arms as left handed Starc comes around the wicket, angling the ball in to the right handed batter.

Three slips still, and a gully, the rest of the field is spread, as Mehidy pushes square to backward point but, once again, Mehidy doesn't fancy running. He is 19 off 43 balls, Hasan Mahmud is 11 off 48.

EDGED! Great stop from Marnus Labuschagne at third slip - they take a single but it should have been a boundary. I may have done Mehidy a disservice there as he played for that, an extraordinarily late cut that was angled through the slips. Great stop from Marnus.

Bouncer from Starc at 144km/h, Hasan ducks under it.

Down the leg side from Starc, Hasan gets out the way and Carey takes a good grab down that leg side.

Hasan clips off his pads, a yorker from Starc, a couple of runs to Hasan and Bangladesh.

He has to do this, Nathan Lyon, just hold an end and be a threat for as long as he can.

Mehidy defends the first couple.

Make that the first three.

This is a good battle, this. I'd love to see Lyon start to think about setting a trap, which I have no doubt he is doing, only imperceptible to eyes as uneducated as mine.

Mehidy releases the pressure with a clip to midwicket for a couple.

Now he pushes into the off side and gets a single to point.

Hasan clips the last away to square leg but won't take a single, even as Travis Head jogs backward before picking the ball up.

Just a three-over spell for Cameron Green, who goes back to gully after a fruitless handful of deliveries.

Wide across the face of Mehidy, who leaves well alone. "Oh, Mitchell," cries Marnus Labuschagne.

Three slips, the third a little wider than orthodox, and a gully as Starc tries to get on off the outside edge. It's not tempting him yet.

Now Mehidy drives into the off side, no run there though as cover fields.

Starc is showing no ill effects from the slip he had on the turf when taking the catch of Tanzin off Nathan Lyon earlier in the day. That's a good thing.

He's also dispensed with the headband he was wearing yesterday. That's a good thing, too.

Mehidy clips off his pads for a single to backward square leg and they will take a single.

Outside off, Hasan plays inside the line, provoking a smidgin of excitement from the slip cordon, but it was brief, as Starc grimaces after loosening up after his first over back.

Hasan defends solidly into the off side.

He defends with a very straight bat now, back down the pitch.

Carey gives a half-hearted "come on Gaz," as Lyon comes in once more, Mehidy defends.

Two slips and a bat pad in place as Lyon comes around the wicket to the right hander - I'm not sure there's enough turn for this tactic, can he get one to grip just enough to test Hasan's resolve? Not yet, it seems.

That over is solidly and comfortably seen out, a maiden for Lyon.

Mehidy defends the first and leaves the second.

This pair, Hasan and Mehidy have really settled things down for Bangladesh. There was a bit of freneticism with the new ball, panic almost, as wickets fell, but now it's settled down. The partnership is 22 from 65 balls.

Fly slip in place now, two orthodox slips and a gully. Only the one ball though as Mehidy fends away to backward point for a single.

Two slips and a gully and Lyon back on the rope now at deep cover, Hasan leaves well alone.

Green sends another one wide outside off, not a threat, not really doing anything to be honest, the Western Australian.

Driven nicely out to deep cover, just a single to end the over.
