Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayAston Villa have made a double signing with both Zion Suzuki and Matteo Ruggeri completing moves to the club.
Goalkeeper Suzuki joins from Parma for a deal that could rise to £30million and is likely to become Villa’s new number one with Emiliano Martinez still expected to leave before the transfer window closes.
Ruggeri moves to Villa Park from Atletico Madrid and will compete with Ian Maatsen for the left-back berth. A product of the Atalanta academy, the 24-year-old left Bergamo for Atletico 12 months ago but made just 26 appearances in all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side. He is reported to have cost Villa in the region of £21m.
Both deals represent good news for Villa boss Unai Emery who had to watch key men Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans leave the West Midlands this summer.
Rogers joined Chelsea in a British-record deal worth £117m while Manchester United triggered Tielemans’ release clause of £35m to take him to Old Trafford.
Suzuki to replace Martinez at Aston Villa
There should be at least one more outgoing with Martinez now surplus to requirements and Villa eager to get him off the wage bill.
The Argentina number one was poised to join Juventus only for the Serie A club to pull out and instead sign Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham.
Suzuki is likely to be in goal when Villa open their Premier League season against Brighton on Sunday. The 23-year-old was born in the United States to a Ghanian father and Japanese mother and grew up in Urawa.
Suzuki came through the youth system at local club Urawa Red Diamonds before joining Belgian side Sint-Truidense, initially on loan before signing permanently in 2024.
His spell in the Pro League was short as he switched to Parma five months later.
Suzuki made his Japan debut in 2022 and started all four games for his country at the 2026 World Cup as Japan reached the round of 32 before losing to Brazil.
