Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a rally in Kerala’s Palakkad on Sunday (March 29, 2026), said, “change in Kerala is driven by people’s blessings, tireless efforts of BJP workers, and their sacrifices.” 

Lashing out at the Opposition, Mr. Modi alleged, “for decades, LDF, UDF traded power amid ‘scams’, yet never acted against each other, making hollow claims before people.”

“Both LDF and UDF admitted BJP is A-team in Assembly polls,” he adds. 

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, during a rally in Purulia on Sunday (March 29, 2026), said, “ahead of Bengal elections, 1.2 crore names of voters deleted through SIR.” 

Assam, Kerala, and the Union Territory of Puducherry will go to the polls on April 9, 2026. In Tamil Nadu, the election will be conducted on April 23. The first phase of elections will be held on April 23, 2026, in West Bengal, and the second phase on April 29, 2026. The counting for all these elections will be held on May 4, 2026.

    Amit Shah's poll rally in Assam's Dhekiajuli delayed due to heavy rain

    Union Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled election rally in Assam’s Dhekiajuli Assembly constituency in Sonitpur district was delayed due to heavy rain, a BJP leader said.

    Mr. Shah’s programme was scheduled to begin around 11 a.m., but his helicopter could not fly from here due to inclement weather conditions, he said.

    The Union Minister later left by road for Dhekiajuli, about 133 kms from here, the BJP leader said.

    “It will take at least three hours to reach the venue,” he said.

    Mr. Shah was scheduled to address two poll rallies at Dhekiajuli for Minister Ashok Singhal and later in Tihu for Minister Chandramohan Patowary.

    AIADMK retains majority of Chennai district constituencies, face-off with DMK in 13 seats

    With the Opposition AIADMK retaining for itself a majority of the Assembly constituencies in Chennai district, the party would face the ruling DMK in a direct contest in as many as 13 out of 16 seats.

    AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday fielded an array of former state ministers, party seniors and women to take on the DMK in Chennai, considered as the DMK’s stronghold.

    Party’s former state ministers: B Valarmathy and Gokula Indira would take on the DMK’s sitting MLA N Ezhilan, and party functionary N Chitrarasu, from Thousand Lights and Anna Nagar constituencies, respectively.

    Porkodi, the wife of slain BSP leader Armstrong, has been fielded from Thiru Vi Ka Nagar where she would take on K S Ravichandran of the DMK in this reserved constituency.

    Party seniors P Santhanakrishnan and Aadhi Rajaram will engage Chief Minister M K Stalin and his Deputy Udhayanidhi in a direct contest in Kolathur and Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituencies, respectively.

    Venugopal terms bribery case ‘BJP-CPI(M) sponsored’, denies wrongdoing

    AICC leader K C Venugopal on Sunday (March 29, 2026) alleged that the case registered against him and other Congress leaders over bribery-for-election-ticket allegation in Haryana was a “BJP-CPI(M) sponsored” move.

    He was responding to questions from reporters here over a case registered against him and MP Kodikunnil Suresh on charges of allegedly accepting a bribe in exchange for a seat in the Haryana Assembly election.

    “The petition was first submitted before the DGP under the Kerala chief minister. Why was no investigation conducted?” he asked.

    The Congress leader said the case was fabricated as part of the election process, and he has also taken legal steps.

    “This is a BJP-CPI(M) sponsored allegation. I have taken clear legal steps. I have also filed a complaint. Let there be an investigation,” he said.

    He added that he does not fear any probe as he has done nothing wrong. -- PTI
