Bypolls is being held in two Assembly constituencies in Gujarat and one each in Kerala, West Bengal and Punjab

Voting began for the high-stakes assembly byelections in five constituencies across the country on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The polling began at 7 am on the Nilambur seat in Kerala, the Ludhiana West seat in Punjab, the Kaliganj seat in West Bengal, and the Visavadar and Kadi seats in Gujarat.

Counting of votes will take place on June 23. The last date for filing nominations will be June 2 and that of withdrawal of candidature will be June 5.

Gujarat | Voting begins in Visavadar and Kadi assembly seats
Voting began at 7 am on Thursday, June 19, 2025 morning for byelections to the Visavadar and Kadi assembly seats in Gujarat, where the BJP, Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have put up their candidates. The state government has declared a public holiday on Thursday in both the constituencies for voting, said the office of Gujarat’s Chief Electoral Officer.
The Visavadar seat in Junagadh district has been lying vacant since December 2023, after the then AAP legislator Bhupendra Bhayani resigned and joined the ruling BJP.The Kadi seat in Mehsana district, a constituency reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates, has been lying vacant since February 4, following the death of BJP MLA Karsan Solanki.-PTI

Voting in the by-poll for the Nilambur Assembly constituency in Kerala commenced at 7 am on Thursday. Polling commenced amidst tight security arrangements, including the deployment of central security forces and police, along with live monitoring of the by-election process through an extensive webcasting system.

West Bengal | Voting begins for Kaliganj seat
Polling for the by-election to the Kaliganj assembly seat in West Bengal’s Nadia district began at 7 am on Thursday, June 19, 2025 amid tight security arrangements, an official said. Fourteen companies of central forces have been deployed for the bypoll, which is scheduled to conclude at 5 p.m.The by-election is necessitated by the sudden demise of Trinamool Congress MLA Nasiruddin Ahamed in February. His daughter Alifa is the Trinamool Congress nominee.
