British wildcard Arthur Fery has been catapulted from relative obscurity to become Britain’s latest tennis sensation after a thrilling run to the Wimbledon semi-finals. The 23-year-old arrived at SW19 as a little-known 500-1 outsider for the title but is now just two victories away from becoming only the second wildcard to lift the men’s singles trophy in the Open Era, following Croatia’s Goran Ivanisevic in 2001.

Along the way, Fery has swatted away the likes of veteran Grigor Dimitrov and French Open finalist Flavio Cobolli, sweeping the world No.10 aside in straight sets to book his place in the last four. Multi-millionaire father

Fery will take home at least £900,000 for reaching the semi-finals at this year’s Championships – more than doubling his career prize money to date. But the hefty payday is unlikely to transform his lifestyle, given his personal background.

Arthur’s father, Loic Fery, is a highly successful French businessman with an estimated net worth of around £275million. The 52-year-old amassed his fortune as a financial trader in Hong Kong and the UK from 1997 to 2007, before founding the London-based hedge fund Chenavari Investment Managers.

Fery has never been afraid to splash the cash and previously owned French football club FC Lorient, where he still serves as president.

Truth about girlfriend rumours

Fery has largely kept his personal life out of the spotlight, although that has not stopped speculation over his relationship status. He was previously linked with food content creator Honor Mullard, who runs the popular social media page ‘The Honorable Chef’.

The pair are understood to have attended King’s College School in Wimbledon together and have appeared in several photos on social media. However, it has since been confirmed that Fery is currently single.

Mid-tournament medical procedure

Fery’s fairytale run to the semi-finals becomes even more remarkable considering he underwent a medical procedure midway through the tournament. The world No.114 suffered three nosebleeds during his gruelling third-round win over Zizou Bergs, which he admitted is a recurring problem when he exerts himself in hot conditions.

Initially, the Brit said he would consult doctors after the tournament, but he has since revealed that he decided to act much sooner. Speaking after his victory over Cobolli, Fery said: “I had a little procedure four days ago here on it. That seemed to help.

“Just getting the blood vessels cauterised in the nose. A small thing, Nothing major. Didn’t hurt. I’ve also tried to avoid wiping with a towel straight on the nose. I think that was also not helping, so just a combination of things, just a bit of luck as well.”

The minor operation appears to have worked wonders, with Fery going nosebleed-free during his two most recent games.
