Louise Rennison's beloved book series is being adapted for television with casting currently underway

A "comedy gold" book series that has sold millions of copies worldwide is being adapted for TV.

The late author Louise Rennison penned a total of 10 Confessions of Georgia Nicolson novels which were released between 1999 and 2009. The young adult series centres around an awkward 14-year-old girl as she navigates family life, friendships, love and coming-of-age in the UK.

The very first book titled Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging has already been adapted for the big screen in star-studded 2008 film Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. Among the recognisable faces in the cast are a young Aaron-Taylor Johnson (Nosferatu, Kick-Ass) as school heartthrob Robbie and Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark) as Jas, the best friend of protagonist Georgia Nicolson.

The main character of Georgia was played by actress Georgia Groome, who went on to have two children with Harry Potter star, Rupert Grint. The film version also featured comedian Alan Davies as Georgia's dad, Bob.

Now the story is set to be told for a whole new generation, with a TV series in the works for a "major streaming platform" - though exactly which one remains under wraps.

The pilot will bear the same title as the first book, Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging. So what more do we know about it?

A casting call for the pilot episode was put out just last night (July 3) by casting director Rachel Sheridan, who has previously worked on the likes of Netflix's One Day and BBC's Amandaland. The advert is seeking adult applicants who could pass for a 15 or 16 year old.

She said in the post: "We're casting for a TV pilot for a major streamer: 'Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging' - based on the worldwide bestselling Confessions of Georgia Nicolson books!

"This is a really exciting opportunity for young people! Please share with anyone who might be interested!"

When is Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging released?

The original casting post states that successful applicants must be available for filming for the pilot from late September through to October this year. It also adds that if the series is given the green light beyond the pilot, they should be available from May 2027 to October 2027.

Typically a pilot episode is filmed as a proof of concept which is then brought to executives to sign off on. If a full series is ordered, then that pilot often serves as the first episode.

If this particular pilot is a success, it is possible the show could release sometime in 2028 based on the filming dates from the original casting call, though nothing has been confirmed at this stage.

A release date for Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging is yet to be announced.
