Air India on Sunday announced 78 additional flights on several international routes to support passengers amid the ongoing situation in West Asia, which has disrupted travel options for many travellers.
In a statement, the airline said the extra flights will operate between March 18, adding capacity on key long-haul and regional routes where demand has remained high. The move comes as many airlines continue to adjust schedules due to the conflict in the region.
“To support passengers amid the ongoing situation in West Asia, Air India will operate 78 additional flights on 9 routes between 10 and 18 March," the carrier wrote in a post on X.
Air India said the additional services will connect India with major global gateways, including New York (JFK), London (Heathrow), Frankfurt, Paris (Charles de Gaulle), Amsterdam, Zurich, Malé and Colombo. The flights will operate on routes linking Delhi and Mumbai with these destinations.
The airline said the 78 extra services will add 17,660 seats in both directions, providing much-needed travel options for passengers during a period when international travel capacity remains constrained.
According to the airline, the additional European services will be operated using Boeing 787-8 aircraft, while flights to Malé and Colombo will be served by Airbus A320neo aircraft. The proposed flights between Delhi and New York (JFK) will be operated using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, subject to the required regulatory approvals.
Commenting on the development, Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India, said the airline continues to maintain its scheduled services to Europe and North America despite operational challenges.
“Despite the odds, Air India continues to maintain its scheduled services to Europe and North America, sustaining connectivity to several international gateways using alternative routings that are assessed as safe for operations," Aggarwal said.
