DC star Adria Arjona has discussed the physical training required for her upcoming role in Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to director James Gunn’s Superman, which starred David Corenswet as the superhero. Man of Tomorrow stands as the fourth installment in the new DC Universe, which began with Gunn’s first film, followed by Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl and the upcoming Clayface film by James Watkins.

Arjona’s role in the comic book adaptation is yet to be disclosed. However, a recent sit-down interview with Screenrant saw the actress share insight into the prep needed to star in a superhero film, as well as her experience with the cast.

I have muscles that I’ve never had in my life. I’m training two to three hours a day on a crazy diet,” the star shared. “Drinking coffee is the only thing that keeps me up. And I’m really excited!”

Adjorna has previously worked with Gunn and producer Peter Safran in the 2016 action horror film, The Belko Experiment, by director Greg McLean, with Gunn holding writing credits.

I’m excited to be reunited with the family that started everything for me, which is Peter Safran and James Gunn,Arjona also shared.

“They gave me my first movie. I wouldn’t have done any of the movies that we’ve spoken about today if not for them,” she added. “I wouldn’t be in Andor if it hadn’t been for Peter Safran and James Gunn, so it feels really f***ing cool and really exciting to reunite with that team and to be in that family. And that’s all I’m going to tell you!”

Man of Tomorrow is set to star Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult and Milly Alcock, reprising their roles from the first film, alongside Rachel Brosnahan, Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Frank Grillo, María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, Lars Eidinger, Aaron Pierre, and Xolo Maridueña.

It is set to build off minor ideas from the comics and include the villain Brainiac.

Man of Tomorrow hits cinemas on 9th July, 2017.
