The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) will begin offering flu vaccinations to the entire population starting Monday, June 22, when approximately 350,000 doses will still be available.

According to the institution, 1,122,317 vaccines have been administered, representing 75% of the goal set for this year’s campaign.

Given that the CCSS purchased 1.5 million doses in 2026, approximately 378,000 vaccines remain available for use by people over six months of age, regardless of whether or not they belong to a high-risk group.

“Influenza can cause serious complications, especially among vulnerable populations. Vaccination remains the most effective measure to prevent hospitalizations and deaths,” said Elvis Delgado, coordinator of the Expanded Program on Immunization.

Children with Low Vaccination Rates

The campaign began by prioritizing older adults, pregnant women, young children, and people with chronic illnesses.

However, among children aged six months to eight years, 141,377 doses have been administered, representing a coverage rate of 35%.

Meanwhile, 17,651 pregnant women have already received the vaccine, representing a coverage rate of 52%.

Meanwhile, 392,076 vaccines have been administered to adults over the age of 58, representing 38% coverage.

Authorities urged the public to take advantage of the available vaccines and protect themselves before the spread of respiratory viruses increases.

Where can you get vaccinated?

Those interested may go to the nearest health facility, regardless of their place of residence, provided doses are available.

Please note that adults must present a valid ID and, if they have one, their vaccination card.

For minors, the Comprehensive Child Development Card, known as the “blue booklet,” must be presented.
