partial cover of It Takes A Village by Alyssa Cole

Even though I am writing this in August of 2026, thanks to publishing announcements and catalogs, my mind is already in the year 2027. Have I already started reading some 2027 galleys? Of course! If I’m excited about something, then I’m going to do all the gimme gimme hands until it’s literally in my hands. And once I have it, I’m all in.

Obviously, there is still much to be announced. Fall hasn’t even started for this year yet, but here are a few of the 2027 mystery releases I’m excited for.

Girl Number 8 by Janice Okoh (January 19, 2027)

A missing person case set in modern Nigeria that follows a detective and is labeled as a literary thriller—yes, please! Bonus: it’s written by a British-Nigerian playwright and screenwriter.

Miss Lambert Steps Aboard Danger by Kazuo Ishiguro (March 9, 2027)

The Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro is taking a twisty turn into the crime genre with his latest novel. A spy novel set in 1938 London, to be more specific.

This Never Happens Here by Wanda M. Morris (Feb 16, 2027)

I was a fan of Wanda M. Morris right out the gate with her debut, All Her Little Secrets, and I have remained a fan through her subsequent novels Anywhere You Run and What You Leave Behind. Now she’s back with a detective thriller — focused on a murder mystery and missing child case — that is set in Atlanta’s wealthy suburbs.

The Moonlight Detective by Yosha Gunasekera (May 04, 2027)

I’m a big fan of Yosha Gunasekera’s The Midnight Taxi, which follows a cab driver in NY who had to put her true crime podcast listening knowledge to the test when a man was murdered in the back of her cab and she became the suspect. I’m thrilled to see that Siriwathi Perera is returning in 2027, still a cab driver and now a part-time investigator, once again partnering with public defender Amaya Fernando for a murder mystery.

It Takes A Village by Alyssa Cole (Feb 9, 2027)

I was also already a fan of Alyssa Cole’s romance novels (A Princess In Theory), so when she wrote a historical romance novel with an undercover spy (An Extraordinary Union), I was all in. Then she topped herself and moved into the social thriller space with When No One Is Watching. Now we’re getting treated again with a social thriller, this time centering on a woman working at a non-profit organization with an experimental project…

You Made Me Do This by Jesse Q. Sutanto (Feb 9, 2027)

I recently shared that the third novel in the fun Vera Wong series, Vera Wong’s Vacation Hacks for Catching a Killer, will be released in 2027. But before that April release, Jesse Q. Sutanto has a thriller coming out. It focuses on a marriage therapist whose best-selling book has thrust her and her husband into the spotlight, but lately something in her life feels off.
