Costa Rican Nico Salazar, a karting driver just 12 years old, premiered his documentary “El Proceso,” a production that, under the concept of “El Peso Invisible,” portrays his journey in motorsports to date.

The documentary explores the challenges of growing up in motorsports, a highly competitive environment where many young athletes face pressures from their families, coaches, and even themselves in the pursuit of excellence.

The film highlights that Nico does not come from a family unfamiliar with the sport. On the contrary, both his parents and his uncle were racers, while his grandfather is the founder of Valerio Racing System (VRS), a karting organization with more than 30 years of experience dedicated to developing talent in motorsports.

However, his parents—who knew firsthand the demands of growing up in this environment—initially tried to keep Nico away from motorsports.

The film shows how, despite those efforts, his grandfather’s insistence that he accompany the team to various competitions sparked a passion that ultimately set the course of his life.

The documentary recounts how the young Costa Rican fell in love with the sport from the very beginning and how, from that point on, his family decided to guide his development so that his athletic growth would not come at the expense of his childhood.

The lessons learned through mistakes, successes, and shared experiences became a fundamental element in providing him with support and tools for improvement, ensuring that the pressure to perform did not become the driving force behind his growth.

At such a young age, Salazar is already competing in the prestigious Italian Karting Championship, considered one of the premier development platforms for future professional drivers.

The film presents this achievement not as a fluke, but as the result of a joint effort aimed at healthy athletic development.

The results are already beginning to reflect that process. Just a few months ago, the Costa Rican driver made it to the podium at the Florida Winter Tour in the United States and continues to make his mark in high-level international competitions.

The documentary was directed by the Corallo brothers, who have more than 10 years of experience producing photographic and audiovisual content for international organizations and agencies such as UNICEF, UNHCR, UNESCO, IOM, the International Red Cross, The Nature Conservancy, and the European Union, among others.

The production has already had an exclusive preview attended by the driver, his family, the project directors, and various partners who have supported Salazar throughout the process.

The documentary premiered online on June 20 and will soon be available to anyone interested in learning the story behind one of Costa Rican motorsports’ rising stars.
