Three people were injured, one seriously, after an “incident” at Schuman metro station in Brussels on Monday evening, a spokesperson for the Belgian federal police said.

One person was arrested, the police spokesperson added.

According to reports from journalists and witnesses on social media, the person who was arrested had tried to attack people in the metro station with a knife. Police were unable to confirm at this stage there had been a knife attack, the spokesperson said.

Schuman metro station is located at the heart of Brussels’ EU quarter, just under the headquarters of the European Commission.
