Nine killed as car plunges into well in Nashik district’s Dindori

A car carrying nine persons veered off a road and fell into a water-filled well in the Shivajinagar area of Dindori town in Nashik district, Maharashtra, resulting in the death of all occupants. The incident occurred late on Friday (April 3, 2026), and the vehicle was retrieved using a crane after an overnight operation.

The incident took place in the Shivajinagar area of Dindori town. The vehicle fell directly into the well, leaving the occupants with no means of escape.

The driver of the car lost control of the vehicle while returning from a social gathering organised by a private coaching class. The deceased included family members and relatives of Sunil Dattu Dargode, a resident of Indor village. After the car veered off the road and entered the well, it sank below the water surface. Local residents reached the spot after receiving information about the crash.

Among the deceased were three children and two women. The victims were identified as Rakhi Sunil Dargode, Shraddha Anil Dargode, Shravani Anil Dargode, Sunil Dattu Dargode, Usha Anil Dargode, and four of their relatives. All were residents of Indor village in Dindori taluka.

Rescue operations began as local residents and administrative authorities took part in the efforts. The car was lifted out of the well using a crane during an operation that continued into the night. By then, all passengers had died.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local administrative officials arrived at the scene after being alerted. With help from residents, they retrieved the bodies. The vehicle involved was a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga with registration number MH15-JS-1053. The police have started an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

The names of the deceased are: Sunil Dattatray Dargode (32), Reshma Sunil Dargode (27), Asha Anil Dargode (32), Gunavati Sunil Dargode (11), Shreyash Anil Dargode (11), Shravani Anil Dargode (11), Srushti Anil Dargode (14), Samruddhi Rajendra Dargode (7), and Shraddha Anil Dargode (13). All were residents of Indore village in Dindori taluka.
